When is the best time to start puppy school?

9-14 weeks of age is the best time to start puppy school.

When is the best time to book into puppy school?

The best time is to contact me when you know when you are picking up your puppy from the breeder.

Does my puppy need to be fully vaccinated?

No, your puppy needs only his first vaccination, puppy school is a safe environment to socalice  your puppy.

What should I bring to puppy school?

A lead a collar and a hungry and well rested puppy that will work for treats.

What training methods is used at puppy school?

Reward based training, praise, treats , games with your puppy.

Why is puppy school so important?

Puppy school is not only a safe place to socalise your puppy to people, other puppies, but also to learn how to prevent problem behaviours.

Can I bring my young kids to puppy school?

You sure can, we love kids here at Take a lead puppy school, but do to space constrains max two kids accompanied by one adult.

What if I can’t make one lesson?

Courses go for 4 consecutive weeks. Makeup classes can’t be guaranteed do to space constraints at some puppy school premises.

Walk and Trains.

How long will my dog be walked for/out of the house?

We walk and train your dog , They will likely be out of your house for approx 1.5hrs in total with travel time included.

How much does it cost?

We charge from $50 per walk, pick-ups are included in this cost.

What do your walks offer over other dog walker’s services?

We offer a unique service of training your dog whilst getting out that energy! We focus half of the walk on training and obedience and cover skills like, Sit, Stay, Drop, Leave it, Come when called and lead walking. Then the other half is focused on dog interaction and play making sure they come home tired and happy!

Will my dog be on leash or off?

Our walks are generally ‘off leash’ depending on your dog’s ability to Come when called. The dogs we are still working on this command with go on a long line leash and will have the freedom to run but still remain fairly close to us so we can keep control of them.
Once they have proved their Come when called command, they will be able to be fully off leash.

Where will my dog be walked?

We try to switch around environments and keep it fun and exciting for our dogs. So, we do a variety of beach and park walks. Some of our favourites being- Rose Bay beach, Rodney Reserve, Centennial Park!

Will my dog be swimming/getting dirty on their walk?

We like to provide an exciting, stimulating and fun walk for your dog…So they may come home a little wet, sandy or muddy! We do however, try to bring them home as clean as possible and wipe down any excess dirt or water/sand.

Do you need a house key?

Generally, we have access to a key which we keep labelled and safe. Alternatively, some clients leave their dog’s in the garden and we can get access through an unlocked side gate or they are already at home to hand over their dog. We are happy to come up with an arrangement that works best for you.

Will my dog be safe in your vehicle?

We do our absolute best to keep your dog as safe as possible when in our van. They will be securely fastened in and have air conditioning to keep them cool at all times!

Which areas do you cover?

We take on dogs from the areas of: Rose Bay, Dover Heights, Vaucluse, Bondi, North Bondi, Bellevue Hill, Point Piper, Paddington. If you live outside, but fairly close to these areas, please don’t hesitate to get in touch and we will try to accommodate you.

What time of day will my dog be walked?

Generally, we do our walks between 8am-4:30pm, Monday to Friday.

Who will be walking my dog?

An experienced, certified dog trainer with years of experience! We focus on providing a safe, stimulating and educational service every time we walk your dog! We always abide by the legal guidelines of taking 4 dogs per person, making sure your dog is always watched over and accounted for. 

Doggy Day School

-What vaccinations does my dog need to attend school?

They will need to have had their third vaccination to attend day school. Please provide proof of vaccinations by sending a copy to: info@rosebayvet.com.au

-How do I enrol my dog into school?

You will need to fill out an enrolment form before attending school. You can find the enrolment form on our website. Please attach your puppies vaccination papers to the online enrolment form.

Does my dog need to be social with other dogs and people in order to attend
school?

Yes, we ask that your dog is able to be around and socialise with other dogs and people in order to attend school. If they struggle with certain behaviours, then we can help your dog with private sessions, with the aim to integrate them into school once improved.

What time should I bring and collect my dog from school?

We open at 7:30am, so we would recommend dropping your dog into school between 7:30-9am. Generally, your dog will start to get tired around 4/4:30pm,
which is a good time for pick up, but we are open until 6:30pm if you want/need your dog to stay the full day.

What do I need to bring my dog to school with?

If your dog still eats lunch, then you can bring him/her a lunch box with any specific instructions. Other than that, all you need to bring is your dog. We will not take your dogs lead we will use our own.

What treats will you feed my dog?

We use a variety of treats to train your dog with. The majority of the time we use prime 100 or ziwi peak, but . We also use frozen mince meat, cream cheese and various kibble in West Paws toys, to encourage self-settling behaviours, if needed. If your dog has specific dietary requirements and can only have a certain type of food for health reasons. Please specify and bring in suitable treats for us to train your dog with.

Who will be training my dog?

Our qualified certified trainers, supervised by Aggy Ager will be training your pups! Their knowledge and experience with dogs will provide a professional and quality service.

Will I get updates throughout the day?

Yes! We will message you with photos and videos throughout the day showing you what your dog is learning and who their pup friends are!

Do you take my dog for a walk?

Yes, although we do it a little differently to other typical day cares. We mainly do walks for the purpose of training. So, we will focus on walking on lead behaviour and teaching the come when call command. Once they have proofed their recall, we can take them on excursions to the beach.

Will my dog be tired at the end of the day?

Absolutely! With the perfect combination of mental stimulation from training and the physical stimulation of playing and socialising with the other dogs, your pup will come home sleepy and satisfied!…But, not to worry, we offer cosy private spaces where your dog can take power naps throughout the day when needed!

What will my dog be learning?

On their first day, we focus on the commands, Sit and Leave it. We then go on to teach Stay, Drop, Come when called, lead walking, tricks and use Counter
Conditioning to correct any specific behaviours you are struggling with at home. E.g scared of delivery trucks/men.

How will I know what to practise with my dog at home?

We provide training notes and tips for you to continue the commands we teach at school from your home. We send your homework via training videos to make it easy to replicate.

What does a typical day look like at school for my dog?

In the early morning we allow playtime with their doggy friends to exert some of their energy! Late morning, we start to train them one on one, focusing on their
development. Around midday we give out any lunch’s parents have brought in and allow some relaxing time for our dogs to chill and sleep. Throughout the afternoon we continue training and take some dogs out on excursions to the beach or park. Your dog’s then start to wind down for the end of day pick up.

Is your school just for puppies?

No! Although we have a lot of puppies coming through the door, we have a wide age range. It’s a great chance for all ages and breeds to socialise and play with each other-learning the boundaries around different aged dogs.

-What are my payment options?

We offer two payment options for Day School. Either pay as you go where your credit / debit card is charged at check out, or month by month. A pro forma invoice is sent on the 1st of the month with payment required by 7th of the Month to confirm your bookings.
